Executive Team

Sonny is a former US Marine officer and the founder of Actuate, a computer vision company for physical security. He scaled Actuate to more than 110,000 cameras across 15,000+ customer sites.

He started Verdun to build an AI-native monitoring service that brings together deep expertise in AI engineering and agentic workflows with the operational complexities of running a 24/7 monitoring service.

Sonny holds degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Go Illini!) and the University of Chicago.

Tung holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Illinois Chicago and was a National Math Olympiad Gold Medalist.

He worked with Sonny in Actuate’s early days, building its first gun-detection AI model. He then held senior AI engineering roles at LinkedIn, VergeSense, and WeWork before coming full circle to co-found Verdun with Sonny.

At Verdun, Tung leads engineering and AI research, building the agents that autonomously evaluate camera footage and reason about what they see before escalating real threats to our operators.
